This programme is taught in German. German B2 is required for the application process and C1 for enrolment. LUH's flagship engineering faculty, and its own admission page directly contradicts aggregator claims of "English-taught" — the clearest confirmed language correction in this LUH dataset. Requires a 20-week internship before the thesis. Hannover hosts the Hannover Messe annually in April — the world's largest industrial trade fair — giving LUH students local access to 6,500+ exhibitors and direct industry networking opportunities. LUH's location near Continental and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles gives this programme genuine regional industry relevance.

Deadlines & timeline

Deadlines differ by where your degree is from. Dates change every cycle, so always confirm on the official page before planning. Where no fixed calendar date exists or none is confirmed yet, the Details column explains each case.
Who Intake Deadline Details
Non-EU applicants Winter semester Non-EU/EEA-degree holders close six weeks earlier than EU applicants because a uni-assist VPD must be obtained first (itself taking weeks) — start the VPD process well before this date.
EU / German-degree applicants Winter semester EU/EEA-degree holders (and holders of a German degree) apply directly in the LUH portal, no VPD required.

Leibniz Universität Hannover is a Lower Saxony public university — €0 tuition for all students, including non-EU. The semester contribution is €453.16 (WS 2026/27, confirmed on LUH's own Rückmeldung page) — the highest in Germany, but roughly €270 of it funds the Deutschlandsemesterticket (nationwide regional transport, historically very wide-reaching to Kassel, Bielefeld, Lübeck, Hamburg and Bremen, plus 30 free sprintRad bike-share minutes per trip in Hannover), with the remainder covering Studierendenwerk and student-body fees. No application fee to LUH, but a non-EU/EEA degree requires a uni-assist VPD (€75 for the first application). The AStA offers interest-free loans for the semesters when the contribution falls due. Fully exempt on an approved leave semester (Beurlaubung).

Scholarships are listed per university: see LUH scholarships.

What students say

Via StudyCheck · 2024-2026: an aggregated rating, not our own assessment, paraphrased in our own words and never quoted.

3.9 /5

LUH's best-covered master's on this platform and the only LUH programme to clear the ≥3-review threshold — 31 reviews with a perfect 100% recommendation rate (the individual star value was not captured, so no rating is shown). This is consistent with the wider LUH pattern: reviews accumulate on the German-taught engineering programmes, not the newer English ones. Note the language: Mechanical Engineering is confirmed German-taught (B2 to apply, C1 to enrol), so these reviews describe LUH's German route, not an English-taught option.
