# Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (Elite Master) (MSc) at TUM

Elite Network of Bavaria joint programme with LMU: students enrol at both universities and LMU administers the degree. Broad, research-integrated education across theoretical physics and mathematics with more than 30 participating research groups; the master's thesis may be done at TUM. Based across TUM's Garching research campus, approximately 15km north of Munich city centre and connected by U-Bahn (U6), and LMU's Munich city-centre physics faculty.

Fee notes: ⚠ Non-EU/EEA tuition NOT confirmed for this programme. NOT FOUND after checking both the TUM School of Natural Sciences TMP page and the LMU TMP page - neither publishes a tuition figure, so it cannot be confirmed whether the third-country fee applies at all. TUM's master's tiers are €4,000 or €6,000 per semester and are set per programme - do not assume either figure. Check the "Fees for the program" section of the official programme page before budgeting. The €97/semester Studierendenwerk fee applies (WS 2026/27); EU/EEA citizens, German-Abitur holders and holders of a completed German degree pay no tuition. No semester ticket is bundled. ## Admission requirements

- Prior degree: Bachelor's in physics or mathematics
- Minimum grade: Aptitude procedure with an interview; the interview can be waived for exceptionally strong grades.
- Prerequisite credits: Strong theoretical physics and mathematics background
- Also required: A GRE physics or mathematics subject test is required for applicants without an EEA bachelor's degree. A one-page motivation statement is required, and a letter of recommendation must be sent separately by the referee. ⚠ The programme is administered by LMU, not through the standard TUMonline route: applications go to the TMP coordinator as a single PDF by email. uni-assist VPD applies to foreign-degree holders who enrol at TUM.

## Application deadlines

- All applicants, winter semester: 2026-06-15 (PASSED as of the last site build; the window usually repeats next cycle). Application deadline 15 June annually. Applications are submitted to the LMU-administered TMP coordinator (tmp-coordinator@physik.lmu.de) as a single PDF, not through TUMonline.
