# Mathematics (Mathematik) (MSc) at KIT

Research-oriented pure and applied mathematics master drawing on the MathSEE centre, the CRC 1173 Wave Phenomena collaborative research centre and RTG 2229. KIT states it can be studied entirely in German, entirely in English or in mixed languages — one of very few KIT masters explicitly studiable fully in English, and a rare German TU9 pure-mathematics option for applicants without German. Based at KIT Campus South in central Karlsruhe.

The contribution breaks down as €80.00 administrative charge + €109.50 Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe (including student liability insurance) + €12.00 Students Union. The semester ticket is NOT included — only about €17.50 of the Studierendenwerk charge funds a limited off-peak KVV base ticket (weekdays 18:00–06:00, all day at weekends and on public holidays); budget separately for a KVV Studikarte or Deutschlandticket. ## Admission requirements

- Prior degree: Bachelor in Mathematics, or in Physics or Engineering with substantial mathematical content, at least three years and 180 ECTS
- Minimum grade: No limited capacity
- Prerequisite credits: Knowledge of abstract and linear algebra, analysis, functional analysis, probability theory and numerical methods; A cover letter and CV are recommended
- Also required: No GRE. EU and non-EU applicants alike apply directly through the KIT Online-Portal of the International Students Office; KIT performs its own foreign-degree equivalence check. No uni-assist, no VPD, no application fee. APS certificate required for applicants from China, Vietnam and India.

## Application deadlines

- Non-EU applicants, winter semester: 2026-07-15 (PASSED as of the last site build; the window usually repeats next cycle). Non-EU / foreign-degree applicants apply earlier than German and EU applicants.
- EU / German-degree applicants, winter semester: 2026-09-30. German and EU/EEA applicants. A 30 September deadline for an October start is only practical if you are already in Germany or the EU.
- Non-EU applicants, summer semester: 2027-01-15. Non-EU / foreign-degree applicants.
- EU / German-degree applicants, summer semester: 2027-03-31. German and EU/EEA applicants.
